THE United Nations stunningly broke into awkward laughter within minutes of Donald Trump’s speech to the General Assembly after he made a particularly grandiose claim.

DONALD Trump was forced to endure perhaps one of the most humiliating moments for a US president in front of the UN General Assembly, where those gathered audibly laughed at him. And not in a good way.
Speaking at his once-a-year speech at the UN General Assembly, Mr Trump bragged that his administration “had accomplished more than any other administration in history”.

“Didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK,” the US President said.
Mr Trump has long claimed that his predecessors’ weak leadership prompted other nations “to laugh” at the US.
Some in the audience also grumbled during Mr Trump’s remarks when he said “we reject the ideology” of globalism and criticised nations such as Germany for agreeing to an oil pipeline with Russia.
When Mr Trump criticised socialism, a member of the Swedish delegation frowned with disapproval.

Mr Trump also boasted of US economic and military might, rejection of “global governance.”
Mr Trump said he had asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to take a “hard look” at US foreign assistance, saying that the US. is the world’s largest donor of foreign aid “but few give anything to us.”
He said that’s why he has asked Mr Pompeo to review the billions of dollars in foreign aid the US hands out each year.
Mr Trump said the review will examine what is working and what is not working and whether countries that receive US aid “have our interests at heart.”
Mr Trump said going forward “we are only going to give foreign aid to those who respect us and, frankly, are our friends.”
He also talked up his administration’s relationship with North Korea and it’s progress towards denuclearisation.
“I would like to thank Chairman Kim for his courage and for the steps that he’s taken — though more work remains to be done,” Mr Trump said, noting existing “sanctions will remain in place until denuclearisation occurs.”

Progress between the US and North Korea is a “moment that is far greater than people would understand,” Mr Trump said.
Mr Trump declared that the “bloodthirsty killers known as ISIS have been driven out of the territory they once held in Iraq and Syria,” and he called for a “political solution” in the latter country that reflects “the will of the Syrian people.”
And he delivered a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying the United States “will respond if chemical weapons are deployed by the Assad regime.”
Earlier, Mr Trump held up the whole world.
The US President ran a bit late for his once-a-year speech at the UN General Assembly, forcing organisers to change the order of speakers.
Mr Trump was scheduled to speak second at Tuesday’s session, after Brazilian President Michel Temer. Instead, Mr Temer’s speech was followed by an awkward pause as UN officials prepared the podium to accommodate the No. 3 speaker, Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno Garces, who is in a wheelchair.
Mr Trump’s motorcade arrived during Mr Moreno’s speech at the UN headquarters in New York.
The White House did not immediately explain why Mr Trump was late. Mr Trump’s “America First” policies and criticism of allies have clashed with the multilateral spirit of the UN General Assembly.
