Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) launched the Ignis hatchback on Friday at an introductory price of Rs 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The concept was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Interested customers can opt for either a diesel or a petrol-powered version of the Ignis , which is available in four trims - Sigma, Alpha, Zeta and Alpha. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is tuned to produce 83PS of power at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,200rpm. On the other hand, the 1.3-litre diesel mill produces 75PS at 4,000rpm and 190Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. Transmission duties for the engines are handled by either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), with the latter only available in the Delta and Zeta variants. MSIL claims an efficiency figure of 20.89kmpl for the petrol and 26.80kmpl for the diesel.
Maruti Suzuki is offering a host of features with the Ignis, including LED projector headlights with DRLs, dual-tone exterior paint shades, 15-inch black alloy wheels and the 'Smart Play' touchscreen infotainment system that boasts Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink and GPS navigation. Safety features like dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and ISOFIX child seat mounts come as standard across all trim levels.
Like the Vitara Brezza , the Ignis can be opted for with a dual-tone body colour, but only with the Zeta and Alpha variants. The options are Uptown Red with Midnight Black, Tinsel Blue with Midnight Black and Tinsel Blue with Pearl Arctic White. Customers who want to make their Ignis stand out, can opt for a host of personalisation options.
Price-wise, the Ignis' rivals include the Mahindra KUV100 , Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo and another Maruti Suzuki product - the Swift.
