As Mr Trump confirms the first two women for his Cabinet, there is still uncertainty over whether Mr Carson will take up a job.
Former presidential candidate Ben Carson has not yet taken up an offer to become secretary of housing, his spokesman has said.
The Wall Street Journal said the retired neurosurgeon's spokesman, Armstrong Williams, had confirmed the move.
Mr Williams however denied it was a done deal.
He disputed the report and told the Reuters news agency that Mr Trump had only asked Mr Carson to consider the role.
"Nothing has been offered and no decision has been made," he said.
He tweeted earlier on Wednesday that Mr Carson was "seriously considering" a "cabinet post".
The denial also comes despite Mr Carson tweeting that "an announcement is forthcoming about my role in helping to make America great again".

If he accepts the job, Mr Carson would be head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
It would see him lead an agency that aims to help low and middle-income people find homes and has a programme to replace run-down public housing with mixed-income neighbourhoods.
Only last week Mr Carson said he was not interested in a Cabinet role.
"Having me as a federal bureaucrat would be like a fish out of water," he told the Washington Post.
But after a trip to Trump Tower on Tuesday he posted on Facebook that talks with the President-elect had gone well.
Mr Carson said he felt he could "make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone".
Originally gunning for the top job, he threw his support behind Mr Trump when he pulled out of the race to be Republican nominee.
The 65-year-old was also reportedly considered for the posts of surgeon general and the head of the Health and Human Services Department.
It comes as Donald Trump revealed his choice for America's ambassador to the United Nations.
The President-elect said in a statement that South Carolina governor Nikki Haley is "a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals".
The 44-year-old is a daughter of Indian immigrants and took Mr Trump to task over his rhetoric about illegal immigration during the presidential campaign.
The first female appointment by the President-elect, she has little foreign policy experience but will have a significant role representing the US on the world stage.
Mr Trump also announced Betsy DeVos as education secretary, calling her a "brilliant and passionate education advocate".
Ms DeVos heads the group American Federation for Children and is a former Michigan Republican Party chairwoman.
Both appointments must be confirmed by the Senate.
