Mirzya box office collection day 4: Film’s dismal show continues

Mirzya box office collection day 4: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya continues to perform poorly at box office.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya continues to perform poorly at box office. Both Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher seemingly aren’t able to create a spark on screen. Mirzya has managed to collect mere Rs 2.20 crores on the third day. The film has so far collected Rs 6.50 crores in three days. Mirzya is expected to see a decline in numbers as the long weekend is over. Will the film manage to survive the week? Only time will tell.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, ” #Mirzya Fri 2.20 cr, Sat 2.10 cr, Sun 2.20 cr. Total: ₹ 6.50 cr. India biz. DISAPPOINTING!”

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had high expectations from the film. He pinned his hopes on the two newcomers. But after giving films such as Rang De Basanti and Bhag Milkha Bhag, the audience is clearly disappointed with Mirzya.

In an interview, Mehra said, “Mirzya is inspired by the famous folklore of Mirza Sahiba. It has its likeness in great love stories and great romantic tragedies like Romeo Juliet, Heer Ranjha and Laila Majnu.

In my film, we play out the folklore which forms one part of the story and then the folklore, in a way, kind of resonates and echoes and lands in today’s time. And mostly a good 70% of it plays out in contemporary Rajasthan (in 2016) with contemporary actors,” Mehra said.

“It is very difficult to tell a story just keeping the box office in mind. I think we have to pursue our passion, we have to pursue excellence, you have to be true to storytelling, true to the art of cinema that is very important for me. Then let your efforts kind of re-dividends as to whatever they deserve. I always believe that when a film goes out it cannot be judged by just a Friday, or just by numbers on that Friday. Firstly I would rather not judge movies, but who have any kind of a yardstick is whether the film has some kind of a perpetuity to it that it can live on forever and ever,” added Mehra
