DONALD TRUMP has downplayed recent North Korean missile tests after tweeting from Tokyo that they are of no concern to him.
The US President tweeted: "North Korea fired off some small weapons, which disturbed some of my people, and others, but not me." However, his comment contradicted his national security adviser, John Bolton’s message to the media. Mr Bolton said North Korea’s weapons tests this month “no doubt” violated the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
He said: "The UN Security Council resolution prohibits the launch of any ballistic missiles and there is no doubt that North Korea has violated the resolution.”
Yet, Trump said he has “confidence” in North Korean leader Kim Jong Un who will allegedly “keep his promise to me”.
North Korea resumed testing short-range missiles earlier this month.
The missiles are the first launches since 2017 and the first since Trump began visiting North Korea to meet Kim Jong Un.
Mr Bolton urged Kim Jong Un to return to denuclearisation talks after saying, “Trump has held the door open for Kim, the next step is for Kim to walk through it”.
Mr Bolton also supported Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s meeting with Kim Jong Un without preconditions.

The national security adviser tweeted about the relationship between the US and Japan saying it is about, “a robust security alliance; space, science and tech leadership; and advancing prosperity through secure energy markets and digital networks".
During Trump and Mr Abe’s summit meeting, Mr Bolton hoped the two would discuss "making sure the integrity of the Security Council resolutions are maintained”.

During an impromptu news conference on Thursday Trump said he was "flattered" by the invitation from Mr Abe.
He told reporters: "Prime Minister Abe said to me, very specifically, ‘You are the guest of honour.’

"There's only one guest of honour. I'm the guest of honour at the biggest event that they've had in over 200 years.
"So it's a great thing. And we get along very well with Japan. I get along very well with the Prime Minister."
