Addressing the recent developments in the Samajwadi Party (SP) leadership, party national General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav Thursday dismissed reports of infighting saying that there “is no crisis in SP.” Ram Gopal also defended Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ‘s recent decisions, adding that it was natural for a chief minister to act on his own discretion. “Some differences arise in minor points (and) those can be resolved,” he told reporters, according to ANI.
Yadav also called out the party leadership for their “mistake” in appointing Shivpal Yadav as the new chief of SP’s Uttar Pradesh unit. “Party leadership made a mistake, though not deliberately, by removing Akhilesh Yadav as the UP SP chief. Akhilesh’s removal led to misunderstanding, the matter will be resolved,” PTI reported.
Over the past few days, multiple incidents have exposed a rift in the Samajwadi Party. After losing the state unit chief position to uncle Shivpal Yadav, Akhilesh had removed Shivpal from all key ministerial positions. The UP CM also removed Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal who was reportedly close to Shivpal. When questioned over the growing family rift, Akhilesh had said on Tuesday, “What you are witnessing is a fight in the government, not the family.”
On Wednesday, the 43-year-old CM had spoken of interference by outsiders in the party. Referring to his comment, Ram Gopal Yadav said, “I will meet UP CM, ask him what he meant about bahri log(outsiders).” He also said that there are some people who take advantage of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s “simplicity” adding that “these people dont have party’s well being in mind.” Ram Gopal also informed the media that SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and son Akhilesh Yadav is possible in the coming days.
