Surprise Casting Announcement

Colman Domingo, the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actor, has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film Wicked: For Good as the voice of the iconic Cowardly Lion.  The announcement arrived via a playful Instagram video in which Domingo appeared holding a stuffed lion toy before revealing his involvement and saying, “See you in Oz.” 

About the Film

Wicked: For Good is the sequel to the 2024 adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. The story continues the saga of Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (played by Ariana Grande) as they face the consequences of the events from the first film. Domingo’s role as the Cowardly Lion brings one of Oz’s most famous characters into the sequel, adding a fresh dimension to the expanding theatrical universe.

What Domingo’s Role Means

Though the role reportedly doesn’t include a large number of lines, it carries high symbolic value. Director Jon M. Chu noted that the decision to bring in a well-known actor was deliberate:

“I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time…’ He was like, ‘Why the f--- not, let’s go!’
This underscores that even smaller roles in major franchise films can carry significant narrative weight and marketing appeal.
