Rescuers have recovered two bodies after a bus plunged nearly 60 metres into a river following a car accident on a bridge in China's Chongqing city, state media reported.
The public bus collided with a car on a four-lane bridge in the city's Wanxian area. The bus then veered, broke through the bridge fence and plunged into the Yangtze river.
The bus sank some 80 metres under the water, state radio reported late on Sunday, citing rescuers.
More than 10 people, including the driver, were riding the bus, state radio said.
Witnesses initially told local media that the car had been driving on the wrong side of the road, however police have said this was not the case.
Authorities said in a statement that the bus may have veered into the wrong lane, the South China Morning Post reported.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
