'Noxious smell' from suspicious package sent to Norwegian military base hospitalises four people

Four people were taken to hospital after a suspicious package with a noxious smell was opened at a Norwegian military base.

Police and Armed Forces are investigating on site after the package was received at the post office at Kolsås camp in Bærum, a suburb of Oslo.


Army spokesperson Jannicke Haugan Strand said there was a noticeable odour when the package was opened.

"Bomb group is on site. Besides that, I can not say more when it is the Armed Forces," Oslo police Operations Manager Tore Solberg told Norwegian outlet VG.

Four civilian employees are under observation at Ullevål Hospital.

The hospital has confirmed to Norwegian media that it has received the patients.

Colonel Lieutenant Frank Sølvsberg, spokesman for the defense chief, confirmed the incident to VG but refused to comment further.

The base at Kolsås houses the The Armed Forces Logistics Organization, Defense Materials, Cyber ​​Defense, National Security Authority, Defense Building and Oslo Garnison Management.
