TWO girls narrowly escaped a terrifying kidnap ordeal after a masked man attempted to snatch them in East London on Friday.
The girls, aged six and nine, were playing in the street when they were lured to a secluded spot by the stranger — just yards from a police station.
It was only when they screamed for help that the suspected abductor fled.
Police are appealing for information as they launched a manhunt last night.
They are asking for witnesses who were in the Stoke Newington area of the city on Friday night to come forward.
Detectives are now trawling through CCTV footage to track down the suspect — who was wearing dark clothing and a light-coloured face covering/mask.
No arrests have been made and cops are also carrying out door-to-door enquiries.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At around 20:15hrs on Friday, 7 September, officers were alerted to an incident in Coronation Avenue, N16 in which the girls, aged nine and six, were grabbed by an unknown suspect.
"At the time of the incident, around 1900hrs, the girls had been playing together.
"Both girls were led to a secluded area a short distance away.
"When the girls began to scream for help the suspect ran away."
They added: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the details of what is believed at this point to have been an isolated incident.
"The investigation is being treated as an attempted abduction."
