Melania is set to visit Africa this October, without her husband Donald Trump |
Melania Trump, 48, is the First Lady of the United States, acting as a spokeswoman and ambassador for many charities and causes.
She is a strong advocate and patron for many children's charities, filling up her social media feed with visits to schools, hospitals and talks.
The First Lady is also regularly seen by the side of her husband, Donald Trump when he travels around the world on official visits.
However, Melania is now embarking on her own official tour abroad, and Donald Trump isn’t coming along.
The 48-year old former model is planning to visit a host of countries in Africa, hoping to educate herself and address many issues facing children on the continent.
In a statement published in the Associated Press, it was revealed Melania would be embarking on the trip this October.
Melania said: "This will be my first time travelling to Africa and I am excited to educate myself on the issues facing children throughout the continent, while also learning about its rich culture and history."
Melania is usually spotted by her husband's side, but is making this trip alone |
While the exact countries Melania will visit on her trip have not been confirmed, her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham said the White House “will release details in the coming weeks”.

One thing that is confirmed is that Melania will be making this trip alone, without her husband of 13 years.
Melania’s plans were announced on the same day that she spoke out against cyberbullying at the Cyberbullying Prevention Summit in Maryland.
Donald Trump has not yet visited Africa during his time as president, and it is unclear if he will after reports surfaced earlier this year that he called some African nations “sh** hole countries”.
Melania is a great supporter of children's charities, and spends time with children when abroad |
The Washington Post reported Donald asked those present in the Oval Office meeting why people from “sh** hole countries” came to the US, believed to be talking about African countries and Haiti.
Melania isn’t believed to have made any public trips abroad without her husband also in tow.
The mother-of-one’s trip comes just a week after former White House aide Omarosa Manigault released a tell-all memoir making shock claims about the First Lady and Donald Trump.
Omarosa’s book Unhinged reportedly made claims that Melania was “counting every minute” until she can divorce her husband.
Magazine website InStyle reported that in a new book Omarosa claimed: “Melania is counting every minute until [Trump] is out of office and she can divorce him.”
The shock claim is just one of many made in the publication, which other members of Donald’s staff have condemned.
Omarosa Manigault is a former The Apprentice contestant who worked as a political aide for Donald Trump between January 2017 and January 2018.
The 44-year-old has penned a book about her experience, which has caused some controversy.
