A woman attacked by a shark off an isolated British island in the Atlantic is believed to have been flown to the UK for emergency treatment.
The attack happened while she was snorkelling off Ascension Island, located midway between Africa and South America.
The woman is a member of the British territory's government and was reportedly bitten on the leg.
"Her husband had to punch the shark off her. It then went for him," a source told the Times.
People are being warned to swim in the island's waters at their own risk.
The island's council tweeted that a "shark incident was reported at 4pm on Friday 21 April involving a swimmer snorkelling in English Bay".
On Saturday, the Saint Helena government website said "an emergency aero-medical flight" was being arranged to the UK.
Ascension Island covers just 34 square miles and is governed as part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
About a nine-hour flight from the UK, Ascension is home to an RAF station and was used extensively during the Falklands War.
The population is just over 800, according to a 2016 census.
