Bathroom taps, brass lamps worth Rs 70,000 stolen from Sri Lankan High Commissioner’s residence in Islamabad

An official of Sri Lanka's High Commission filed a police complaint in Islamabad, alleging that the thieves had stolen brass lamps and bathroom taps from the high commissioner's residence in Pakistan

Islamabad: Lamps and taps worth almost Rs 70,000 were stolen from the high-security official residence of Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pakistan by some unidentified miscreants on Saturday, local media reported. The robbery took place at the residence of Sri Lankan High Commissioner Major General (r) Jayanath C P Lokuketagodage in Islamabad.

As per a report in The Express Tribune, an official of Sri Lanka's High Commission filed a police complaint in Islamabad, alleging that the thieves had stolen brass lamps and bathroom taps from the high commissioner's residence at Sector F-8/2 lane 21. The total estimated value of the stolen goods was around Rs 70,000, the police complaint read.

As per media reports, even though the value of the goods stolen was not very high, security officials were concerned that supposed intruders managed to break-in the high-security residence of the envoy in the national capital. An investigation has been ordered in the matter, the report said.

However, the Sri Lankan envoy to Pakistan has reportedly tried to downplay the matter, calling it a “minor incident,” Colombo Gazette reported. Acting High Commissioner N.M.M. Anas reportedly told a daily that a staff member was suspected of stealing the items and that the incident was “not serious.”

In the last week, Islamabad police claimed to have nabbed four gangs of street criminals, a gang robbing people after giving them lift, peddlers selling off their drugs to students as well as a bootlegger who supplied bottles at homes after taking the orders on phone, the Express Tribune reported.
