A train derailment in Taiwan has left at least 22 people dead and more than 170 injured.
There were 366 people on board the train travelling between Taipei and the eastern county of Taitung when it derailed.
It’s been reported the train derailed around 70km outside of Taipei, and there are fears some people may still be trapped, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
Witnesses reported having to break open windows to escape the carriages.
There’s no clear indication yet as to what caused the derailment, though according to witness reports at the scene there was a loud noise and then sparks and smoke were visible.
The Taiwan Railways Administration said the train was only six years old.
Taiwan relies heavily on its rail links, with up to half a million people using its trains each day.
