Mumbai Police cautions teens against the deadly Momo Challenge

Internet today has become the hub of bizarre challenges. While some can be taken with a pinch of humour, others if not stopped at the right time can prove to be lethal. Days ago, the social media was grooving to the rhythm of the Kiki Challenge.

The bizarre challenge, which involved participants stepping out of a moving car, leaving the car door open and dancing to the tunes of Drake's hit song "In My Feeling" caused many accidents around the globe. And now another challenge-- Momo Challenge-- is going viral in the cyber space.

The Momo Challenge, just like its predecessor-the Blue Whale Challenge- involves youngsters completing a set of dangerous tasks ending with suicide. The bizarre challenge came into light when the police discovered that it led to the death of a 13-year-old Argentinian girl.

According to a report by The Sun, the wacky challenge reportedly started on Facebook. In the challenge, the members are asked to communicate with an unknown number. The unknown number then instructs the participants to complete a set of a violent tasks, which in the end leads to suicide. The account used in the challenge appears to be connected with three numbers based in Japan, Mexico and Columbia.

Owing to the dangerous nature of this challenge, Mumbai Police has issued an advisory asking the people to beat the challengers in their own game by not succumbing into their demands. The Mumbai Police in a post on Twitter is asking people to interact with them should people encounter such a game online.
