Amid heightened tension following the Indian Army's surgical strikes inside Pakistani territory earlier this week, the Indian Coast Guard today apprehended a suspicious Pakistani boat near Porbandar off the Gujarat coast.

The Coast Guard ship 'Samudra Pavak' apprehended the boat around 10.15 am this morning. The vessel, which looks like a fishing boat, had nine people on board.

"In the prevailing scenario, Coast Guard ship Samudra Pavak apprehended a Pakistani boat with nine crew members," an official statement said.

"Preliminary information indicates the crew to be Pakistani fishermen. However, the boat and the crew members were being escorted to Porbandar for further joint investigation," it added.
The Pakistani boat and its crew have been taken to Porbandar for rummaging and investigation. The boat is expected to reach the port by tonight.

After India's surgical strikes inside the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), security forces have stepped up security along India's coasts and borders.

The Indian Coast Guard has been maintaining heightened 24X7 vigil with its ships and aircraft.
India is on high alert following reports that Pakistan may use terrorists based on its soil to avenge India's operation in PoK late on Wednesday night, in which nearly 50 suspected infiltrators were killed and eight terror camps destroyed.
